2027 Summer Supply Chain Intern

About the role

Over a 10‑12‑week summer internship, the Supply Chain Intern will work at Butterball’s Mount Olive, NC facility. The intern will support the supply chain operations team that manages logistics, shipping, distribution, planning and coordination, and will collaborate with diverse teams on projects that match their skills and interests. This role provides professional development and hands‑on experience in a food‑production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support a project in plant production focused on MES (Management Excellence Systems).
  • Develop, refine, and execute models to create a product flow that consistently meets demand.
  • Assist with design, documentation, implementation, enhancements, support, and training of the S4 Hana system at one or multiple production sites.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Expected graduation between December 2027 and June 2030.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work.

Skills

  • Proficiency with PC‑based applications (Microsoft Office suite, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access).
  • Analytical, programming, and tool‑building skills using Excel, Power Query, and macros.
  • Excellent organizational abilities, attention to detail, and capacity to prioritize tasks.
  • Knowledge of inventory, production, transportation, or material planning (preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within high‑performing, cross‑functional teams and influence decision‑making with multiple stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to other locations as needed.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

The position requires regular standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and use of hands and fingers to operate equipment, computers, and phones. Occasional climbing and lifting of up to 50 lb are required. Vision requirements include close, distance, depth perception, color vision, and focus adjustment. Work is performed in a manufacturing plant environment with varying conditions (cold, wet, warm, chemicals) and requires personal protective equipment. Noise levels may exceed 85 dBA, necessitating hearing protection. Occasional travel is required.
