2027 Summer Intern, MS/PhD, Software Engineer

Software Engineering builds the brains of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our software allows the Waymo Driver to perceive the world around it, make the right decision for every situation, and deliver people safely to their destinations. We solve complex technical challenges in robotics, perception, decision‑making and deep learning, while collaborating with hardware and systems engineers. Interns partner with leaders on projects that create impact and are an important part of our culture and recruiting pipeline.

Responsibilities

• Develop core simulator functionality used for evaluating internal models for safety evaluation.
• Design and implement metrics and evaluation infrastructure for simulated data.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Experience in model evaluation and developing metrics.
• Experience developing models.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous internship experience.
• Experience writing backend software for robotics.

Location

Hybrid onsite internship position.

Pay

• Masters interns: $70 USD per hour.
• PhD interns: $85 USD per hour.
