About the Role
The Industrial Engineer intern will work closely with the Operational Excellence and Industrial Engineering team, assisting with various assignments while gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic work environment. This is a full-time, paid 12-14 week summer internship based in Dallas, TX, following a 9/80 schedule with onsite work required. Interns collaborate with and learn from experienced engineers in the Electro-Optical & Infrared Systems line of business, engaging in projects from start to finish with opportunities for growth and exploration.
Responsibilities
- Gather, compile, review, validate, and analyze data and information from multiple sources
- Use software to compile and generate reports, statistics, timelines, tables, graphs, correspondence, and presentations
- Work closely with and assist engineers in the conduct of various engineering assignments
- Spend approximately 70% of time supporting production through observations and time studies, and 30% analyzing data
- Validate facility layout using AutoCAD
- Support the creation of current state process flow based on observations and participate in brainstorming sessions to improve processes
- Conduct 6S audits
- Perform a wide variety of tasks to gain familiarity with Industrial Engineering tools
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a 4-year degree program or 2-year Master's program in Industrial Engineering
- Enrolled at time of application as a Junior or Senior with at least a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Proficient in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, and Microsoft Word)
- Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to build a strong network
- Must be diligent, hardworking, and a quick study
- Basic knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma manufacturing methodologies for waste reduction, including 5S, Standard Work, TAKT, Pull System, single piece flow, Value Stream Mapping, cell design, and manufacturing flow
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Must have an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment
