2027 Summer Animal Care and Wellbeing Intern

About the role

Butterball, LLC is offering a 10‑12 week summer internship as an Animal Care & Wellbeing (ACWB) Intern in Goldsboro, NC. The intern will support live operations and processing teams to produce healthy, well‑cared‑for turkeys, bridging farm operations and quality assurance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in ongoing trials and projects involving turkeys on the farm and/or in the processing plant.
• Evaluate data gathered from trials to improve management practices.
• Assist in animal care and biosecurity audits and audit preparation, as needed.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Poultry Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Business, or a related field.
• Expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2029.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work.
• Willingness to work occasional night shifts.
• Comfort working in outdoor environments and production facilities, including hot, humid, and loud conditions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Interest in learning about the commercialization of livestock.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate equipment, computer, telephone, and keyboard.
• Occasionally required to climb and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

• Work performed in a climate‑controlled office, outdoor farm locations, and manufacturing plant environments.
• Exposure to cold, wet, warm areas, chemicals, and other site conditions.
• Use of personal protective equipment is required.
• Office noise level is moderate; manufacturing environment noise may exceed 85 dBA and require hearing protection.
• Travel between sites is required.
