About the role
The Population Health Center of Excellence is the driving force behind Genentech’s work to close care gaps, improve clinical outcomes, and ensure our innovations reach more patients in more communities. This high-impact internship offers the opportunity to operationalize and help drive the external and enterprise positioning of one of Genentech’s strategic initiatives—Population Health. The role operates within the Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG) organization as part of the Population Health Center of Excellence, focusing on bringing the Population Health narrative to life both internally across Genentech and externally with key healthcare stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Operationalize the Narrative: Develop toolkits, messaging frameworks, and activation plans to bring Genentech’s Population Health story to life.
- Drive Multi-Channel Engagement: Design and execute engagement activities targeting diverse audiences, ensuring positioning is compliant, consistent, inspirational, and effective.
- Strategic Positioning: Act as a bridge between the Center of Excellence and broader CMG/Enterprise teams to integrate Population Health into Genentech’s overarching internal and external identity.
- Measure & Refine: Establish KPIs for engagement success and gather feedback to continuously improve communication tactics.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or have attained a Master’s Degree or PhD in Marketing Communications, Strategic Communications, Public Health, Population Health, Corporate or Strategic Communications, Public Affairs, Public Relations, or a related field.
- A connector who thrives in cross-functional teams and navigates complex organizational structures.
- A master communicator capable of translating complex clinical or scientific concepts into compelling, action-inspiring stories.
- Knowledge of corporate communications best practices, audience segmentation, and multi-channel content activation across internal and external platforms.
- Execution-oriented with a passion for operationalizing ideas and building systems behind successful activations.
- Agile and proactive, comfortable with ambiguity and pivoting in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
Preferred Skills
- Foundational understanding of public health strategy, health equity initiatives, clinical outcome improvement, and the U.S. healthcare ecosystem.
- Familiarity with regulatory, legal, and compliance standards in pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare commercial environments.
- Experience designing high-impact events that foster audience engagement, community connection, and leadership positioning.
- Proficiency with modern project management tools (e.g., Monday.com) and enterprise communication software.

Program Details
- Intensive 12-month, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
- Program start date in January (Spring).
- On-site in South San Francisco.
- Stipend provided, based on location, to help offset associated costs.

Pay
The expected salary range for this position in California is $24.00–$50.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
