2027 Roadway Civil Engineering Internship
About the Role
Hanson’s Roadway Engineering discipline includes Civil Engineers who plan, design, and prepare construction documents for rural and urban roadways, freeways, and interstates for local, state, and private clients. Design includes vertical and horizontal alignments, geometric design, intersections and interchanges, roadside safety, pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, pavement marking and signage, utility coordination, erosion control, and construction staging. Software such as MicroStation with OpenRoads/Geopak or AutoCAD with Civil3D is often used, which may include 3D modeling of existing and proposed improvements.
Responsibilities
- Preparing plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Gathering and/or providing data for the preparation of engineering or environmental reports and studies.
- Performing and/or reviewing calculations or reports such as those related to geometrics, transportation engineering, and quantities.
- Utilizing engineering software packages such as MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD/Civil3D.
- Conducting field investigations and/or survey assistance to gather information.
- Documenting and/or observing construction operations.
- Performing related duties such as writing memoranda, letters, or general reports; collecting and correlating engineering data; maintaining records; and attending meetings.
Qualifications
- Actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited civil engineering program.
- Ideal candidate will have successfully completed their sophomore year and be actively enrolled in a 4-year college or university.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver’s license.
Pay
The hourly range for this position is $21–$26 per hour for undergraduates and $30–$40 per hour for postgraduates.
