Our co-op program offers students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience by working on real-world projects. Partnering with industry professionals, participants will contribute to the development and enhancement of Sub-Zero Group's products while gaining practical experience to complement their studies.

Schedule

Co-op assignments are typically 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday for 8 months.

  • Spring (January 2027 - August 2027)
  • Fall (May 2026 - January 2027)

Responsibilities

  • Design Engineering:
    • Work closely with Engineers, Drafters, and Technicians to design, develop, test, and document new designs as well as enhancements to Sub-Zero Inc. products.
    • Create a concept, prototype it, build it to test, and then redesign the product to make any necessary corrections.
  • Operations & Production Engineering:
    • Step into the heart of manufacturing and be part of a fast-paced production team where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to make a real impact.
    • Work side-by-side with skilled hourly team members and collaborate with engineers from reliability, test, quality, and manufacturing to keep things running safely, smoothly, and efficiently.
  • Integrated Systems Engineering:
    • Design and implement automated test systems to verify the quality and performance of luxury residential appliances.
    • Work closely with other engineers to provide test engineering support for the manufacturing floor.
    • The test systems may include data acquisition, vision test systems, and electrical and mechanical interfaces.
    • Assist in development, documenting, programming, and building manufacturing test equipment.
    • Provide troubleshooting support and training to manufacturing personnel.
  • Reliability Engineering:
    • Work closely with experienced engineers to support the development and testing of Sub-Zero Group, Inc. products by creating test plans, building fixtures, and documenting procedures.
    • Assist with product teardowns, root-cause analyses, and design reviews.
    • Analyze sensor and warranty data to identify trends.
    • Help prepare reports using statistical tools to define performance targets and assess risk.
    • Take the lead on projects and gain hands-on experience in product development, data analysis, and engineering problem-solving.
  • Quality Assurance Engineering:
    • Assist in improving quality systems.
    • Work to enhance In-Line product quality and testing of refrigeration/cooking systems and structural dimensions with an emphasis on data capture and analysis.
  • Manufacturing Engineering – Fabrication:
    • Support and enhance manufacturing operations with a focus on Fabrication and New Product Development.
    • Apply principles from Industrial and Mechanical Engineering to analyze processes, design fixtures, and drive improvements in productivity, efficiency, safety, and quality across the plant.
    • Collaborate closely with CNC programmers and design engineers to ensure manufacturability and safe production of components.
    • Contribute to New Product Development by supporting prototype builds, refining fabrication methods, and integrating feedback into design iterations.
    • Gain hands-on experience with SolidWorks for CAD modeling and drawing creation and develop a strong understanding of how engineering decisions impact real-world manufacturing outcomes.
  • Manufacturing Engineering - Assembly:
    • Support and enhance manufacturing operations with a focus on Assembly and New Product Development.
    • Apply principles from Industrial and Mechanical Engineering to analyze, develop, and drive improvements in assembly processes.
    • Work closely with manufacturing engineers, production teams, quality engineers, and design engineers to support the implementation of new products.
    • Assist with fixture and tooling development, time studies, process documentation, safety evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Gain hands-on experience with CAD tools, manufacturing systems, lean manufacturing principles, and real-world problem-solving while developing a strong understanding of how engineering decisions impact assembly operations, product quality, and overall manufacturing performance.
  • Azure IoT Engineering:
    • Work alongside mobile and embedded software teams to develop the Cloud IoT solutions that make our products smart.
    • Activities include backend software development, software design, automated testing development, defect investigation, and participating in Agile ceremonies.
  • Mobile Software Development:
    • Collaborate with mobile, cloud, UX, and QA teams to develop and validate features for the Sub-Zero Group Owner’s App.
    • Responsibilities include mobile application development, feature testing, bug investigation, and supporting connected appliance experiences for customers across iOS and Android platforms.
  • Embedded Test & Validation:
    • Work with software development team to develop and execute testing of Sub-Zero appliance firmware.
    • Activities include automated test development, manual testing, and troubleshooting of electronics.
    • Development of test rigs involving wiring, soldering, and other hands-on assembly and debug.
  • Controls Hardware Engineering:
    • Work alongside the hardware team to validate hardware embedded design solutions that bring our products to life.
    • Design Proof of Concepts (PoC’s) in Altium with aid of lead design engineer, outputs would include schematics, PCB design files, and BOM’s.
    • Build PCBA samples for engineering verification and validation testing including hand soldering of through hole and surface mount components to PCB.
    • Perform PoC design verification using oscilloscopes, DVM’s, programmable power supplies.
    • Create and execute Test procedures and compile test data in test reports with aid of lead engineer.
    • Assist with Altium library component work as needed with aid of lead engineers.
  • Supplier Quality Engineering:
    • Work closely with Quality Engineers, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Design Engineering teams to identify the root causes of supplied-part issues that impact assembly lines.
    • Use data and statistical tools to support reporting, drive continuous improvement, and strengthen supplier quality performance.
  • Embedded Software Engineering:
    • Work alongside the embedded software team to develop controls solutions that bring our products to life.
    • Activities include software development, unit test case development, design documentation, defect investigation, and supporting software releases.
