2027 2L Summer Associate
Position Summary
Ogletree Deakins is seeking second-year law students for its 2027 summer associate program. Students will gain substantial experience in all types of employment-related legal matters during a 10-week summer program.
About the Role
Summer Associates at Ogletree receive mentorship from attorneys across the firm, collaborate on projects with other Summer Associates, and attend office and firm-wide social events. Each Summer Associate is assigned a Supervising Shareholder and Associate Mentor, along with one-on-one support and coaching from the Attorney Development and Recruiting and Retention departments. They also participate in a development program called JD to OD, which provides foundational skills and knowledge in various areas like technology, communication, legal writing, and time entry.
Essential Functions
- Research projects
- Draft written discovery requests and responses, motions, legal correspondence, and prepare legal updates
- Observe and participate in strategic planning for depositions, mediations, hearings, arbitrations, and trials
- Participate in witness interviews and client meetings
- Wide variety of other assignments
Requirements
- Participation in extracurricular activities highlighting leadership skills, commitment, and time management
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work well with others and independently
- Demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset
- Interest in pursuing a career in management-side labor and employment law upon graduation from law school
- Undergraduate degree demonstrating academic excellence and critical thinking ability
Benefits
- Colorado: $2,900 - $3,100 weekly salary range
- New York State: $3,600 - $3,800 weekly salary range
- California: $3,600 - $3,800 weekly salary range
- TBD: $2,900 - $3,100 weekly salary range
- DC: $3,200 - $3,350 weekly salary range
- Baltimore: $2,500 - $2,600 weekly salary range
- Illinois: $3,200 - $3,350 weekly salary range
- Massachusetts: $3,200 - $3,350 weekly salary range
- Minnesota: $2,500 - $2,600 weekly salary range
- New Jersey: $3,200 - $2,350 weekly salary range
