About the role

We are seeking a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related STEM field to join our Flight Systems Performance Group. You will contribute to the development and evaluation of strategic missile systems and hypersonic vehicles, and will be expected to lead technical projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and utilize modeling and simulation tools for trade studies, performance assessments, and design studies of missile and reentry systems and/or hypersonic vehicles
  • Participate in test and evaluation activities, including test operations and pre/post flight evaluations
  • Use computational tools to analyze data and draw conclusions based on data trends and evidence
  • Collaborate with cross-discipline teams to advise government and industry partners on engineering challenges and design trades
  • Communicate findings to team members and government partners
  • Evolve current analysis methodologies and create novel solutions to problems in our field
  • Mentor staff in new techniques and methods in problem solving

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline
  • Demonstrated experience with technical report writing
  • Prior experience with presentations and public speaking
  • Prior experience coding and using MATLAB or Python
  • Prior experience with data analysis
  • Initiative, interest in skill development, and flexibility to accept assignments of varied scope and skill
  • Able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top-Secret level clearance

The minimum rate is $105,000 annually and the maximum rate is $245,000 annually.

The pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked.
