2026 CPAH | Housing Action Corps | AI Capacity Builder
About the role
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Capacity Builder will serve with Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH) in Libertyville, IL from September 2026-2027. CPAH is part of Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and implement responsible, practical uses of AI tools and strategies to increase operational efficiency, reduce staff burden, and better serve our clients.
- Advises CPAH leadership on AI strategy, governance, and ethics.
- Helps CPAH become more efficient in order to develop and preserve more affordable housing units, as well as provide more services, to meet the critical need of meeting the housing needs of communities with less than 10% of their housing stock as affordable.
- Collaborates with staff in multiple areas (intake, case management, fundraising, reporting, etc.) to produce an AI Opportunity Assessment that identifies potential use cases for AI tools, ranked by impact, feasibility, and risk.
- Pilots and monitors strategies that use AI to reduce staff time, improve turnaround, and increase accuracy.
- Produces a final AI Impact report that summarizes outcomes and opportunities while advising leadership on AI policies and guardrails.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is motivated by social impact and genuinely cares about housing stability, equity, and serving vulnerable populations. They understand that AI is a means, not the mission—and that ethics, transparency, and trust matter deeply in nonprofit work. They would be familiar with widely accessible AI tools such as Copilot, Google Workspace AI, ChatGPT, Gemini, and others and have the ability to identify inefficiencies in workflows and map AI solutions to them.
