Teaching Assistant 2 - Special Ed position available at Washington Tech Middle School in St. Paul, MN.
Responsibilities
- Able to perform the duties in various environmental conditions.
- Aid in implementing student Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), 504 Plans, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), and sensory plans.
- Record data on students' IEP objectives and BIPs for use in monitoring and adjusting student programs.
- Support the inclusion of students with disabilities in general education classrooms and environments.
- Aid in completing functional skills training for students, including feeding, dressing, toileting, and other self-help activities.
- Maintain toileting area and equipment.
- Set up meal area and equipment.
- Assist teachers in working with individual students in communication systems therapy and discipline across the school day and in all environments.
- Avoid power struggles and implement de-escalation strategies using Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI).
- Support students on field trips, including assisting with bus duties.
- Complete third-party billing daily.
- Escort students from bus safely to the curb.
- May perform other similar tasks and duties as required.
Requirements
- One of the following: AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or two years of post-secondary coursework from an accredited institution of higher education applicable toward a bachelor's degree.
- Passing score on the ParaPro or Paraeducator Assessment.
- A high school diploma or GED certificate.
- Ability to lift more than 40 pounds.
- Physical ability to sit, walk, climb, crouch, kneel, push, talk, and hear.
- Training in Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and bus safety.
- Completion of basic first aid, CPR, and bus safety policies and procedures training within 30 days of assignment to a special education bus route.
Qualifications
- Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Ability to converse with students and staff as necessary and/or in accordance with student's IEP.
- Basic skills in typing, copying, and use of computers and iPads.
- Ability to develop good relationships with students and staff.
- Sensitivity to the needs of others and ability to relate to students with warmth, friendliness, and understanding.
- Ability to be on time to work every day.
Skills
- Ability to assist in implementing IEPs and BIPs.
- Knowledge of functional skills training.
- Experience with NVCI and bus safety protocols.
Benefits

This is a 10-month position working 35 hours per week.
