About the role
The Teaching Assistant 2 position is for the Special Education classroom at Txuj Ci HMong Language & Culture Lower Campus. Responsibilities include implementing IEPs, supporting students with disabilities in general education settings, and assisting with various therapeutic and behavioral interventions.
Responsibilities
- Able to perform the duties in various environmental conditions.
- Aid in implementing student Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), 504 Plans, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and sensory plans.
- Support the inclusion of students with disabilities in general education classrooms and environments.
- Record data on students' IEP objectives and BIPs for use in monitoring and adjusting student programs.
- Absorb and teach students functional skills, such as feeding, dressing, toileting, and other self-help activities.
- Maintain toileting areas and equipment, set up meal areas and equipment, and assist teachers in communications systems therapy and discipline.
- Be mobile and move around classrooms and the school to meet student needs.
- Complete third-party billing daily.
- Provide follow-up instruction on Positive Behavioral Interventions and implement de-escalation strategies.
- Be trained in Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) for de-escalation and physical restraint techniques.
- Absorb and assist in supporting students on field trips.
- Other similar tasks and duties as required.
Requirements
- Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Ability to develop good relationships with students and staff.
- Ability to be sensitive to the needs of others.
- Ability to relate to students with warmth, friendliness, and understanding.
- Lifting may be required for some Teaching Assistant positions.
- Must be on time to the job every day.
Other Requirements
- Class 1, Class 2, and Floater Teaching Assistants may perform other similar tasks and duties as required.
- Must be physically able to lift more than 40 pounds when applicable.
- Able to sit, walk, climb, crouch, kneel, push, talk, and hear.
- TAs are required to be trained in the Special Education Orientation.
- Must be trained and maintain Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and bus safety training and CPR as required.
- All Teaching Assistant positions may require bus duty.
Work Schedule, Pay, And Benefits
- This is a 10-month position working 35 hours per week.
- The pay range for this position is $21.63 - $26.28 TA2 Maximum hiring step = Step Four (4).
