About the role
The role involves supporting students in academic settings, including those with special educational needs. The primary responsibilities include assisting in implementing Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), 504 Plans, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and providing instruction in functional skills.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the implementation of IEPs, 504 Plans, and BIPs
- Support the inclusion of students with disabilities in general education classrooms
- Record and monitor data related to IEP objectives and BIPs
- Assist students in completing self-help activities and maintain toileting and meal areas
- Collaborate with teachers on communication systems therapy and discipline
- Be mobile and adaptable to meet students' needs
- Complete third-party billing daily
- Implement positive behavioral interventions and de-escalation strategies
- Train in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
- Support students on field trips
Requirements
- Passing score of 460 on the ParaPro Assessment OR a high school diploma/GED certificate
- AA, AS, AAS degree from an accredited institution OR 60 semester credits/90 quarter credits from an accredited institution towards a bachelor's degree
- Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics
- Basic typing, computer, and iPad skills
- Ability to develop relationships with students and staff
- Ability to be sensitive to others' needs and relate warmly to students
- Physical ability to lift more than 40 pounds when necessary
- Sit, walk, climb, crouch, kneel, push, talk, and hear
- Training in Special Education Orientation, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), CPR, and bus safety
- Completion of basic first aid, CPR, and bus safety training within 30 days of assignment to a special education bus route

- Must be physically capable of lifting more than 40 pounds when applicable
- Able to sit, walk, climb, crouch, kneel, push, talk, and hear
- Trained in Special Education Orientation
- Trained and maintained in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and bus safety training and CPR
- May be assigned to a special education bus route and must complete required training within 30 days of assignment

PAY, BENEFITS & WORK SCHEDULE
This is a 10-month position working 35 hours per week. The pay range for this position is $21.63 - $28.48 TA2, with a maximum hiring step of step four (4).
