About the role
The primary role of a Teaching Assistant involves supporting students in academic settings, including those with special educational needs. Essential duties include assisting with Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), 504 Plans, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), as well as providing hands-on support for students' functional skills.
Responsibilities
- Aid in implementing student IEPs, 504 Plans, BIPs, and sensory plans.
- Support the inclusion of students with disabilities in general education classrooms and environments.
- Record and monitor data on students' IEP objectives and BIPs.
- Assist students with completing functional skills such as feeding, dressing, toileting, and other self-help activities.
- Maintain toileting areas and equipment, set up meal areas and equipment, and assist teachers in various therapies and discipline interventions.
- Be mobile and adaptable to meet the varied needs of students.
- Complete third-party billing daily.
- Provide follow-up instruction on Positive Behavioral Interventions and implement de-escalation strategies.
- Be trained in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) for de-escalation and physical restraint techniques.
- Absorb and process information quickly and accurately.
- Able to lift more than 40 pounds when applicable.
- Sit, walk, climb, crouch, kneel, push, talk, and hear.
- Support students on field trips.
Requirements
- One of the following: AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or two years of post-secondary coursework from an accredited institution of higher education applicable toward a bachelor's degree.
- Passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment AND a high school diploma or GED certificate.
- Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Basic typing, computer, and iPad skills may be required.
- Ability to develop good relationships with students and staff.
- Ability to be sensitive to the needs of others and relate to students with warmth, friendliness, and understanding.
- Must be on time to work every day.
- Must be physically able to lift more than 40 pounds when applicable.
- Able to sit, walk, climb, crouch, kneel, push, talk, and hear.
- Trained in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and bus safety training, and CPR as required.
- Required to complete basic first aid, CPR, and bus safety policies and procedures training within 30 days of being assigned to a Special Education bus route.

Pay, Schedule, Benefits
This is a 10-month position working 35 hours per week. The pay range for this position is $21.63 - $28.48 TA2, with a maximum hiring step of step four (4).
Other Information
- Unofficial transcripts are accepted at the time of hire. Official transcripts must be submitted within 30 days of the start date.
- Veteran's Preference: Eligible veterans applying for jobs where veteran's preference applies must submit a legible copy of their DD214 to the Human Resource Department with their employment application. If approved, five or ten additional points will be added to their final passing score.
- Criminal Background Investigation and Reference Checks: Reference checks and a criminal background investigation will be completed as a condition of hire for all new employees and for former employees who have not been employed by the District for more than six months.
