Interim position at Paradise Valley High School for the 2026–2027 school year (0.17 FTE, 07/30/2026 – 05/27/2027).

About the role

The Teacher – High School supports the instructional process by developing student success in academics and skills, delivering lesson plans within established curriculum guidelines, collaborating with staff and administrators, and responding to parent inquiries about student progress.

Responsibilities

• Administer subject-specific assessments to evaluate student competencies.
• Advise parents and guardians on student progress, expectations, and methods for improvement.
• Assess and document student progress toward objectives, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and meet classroom objectives.
• Counsel students or refer them to appropriate school personnel to address performance, health, or personal issues.
• Demonstrate pedagogical approaches that engage learners and address individual student requirements.
• Differentiate classroom instruction to meet individualized learning needs within established lesson plans.
• Direct student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to support classroom programs.
• Instruct students in a defined course of study to improve academic success.
• Manage student behavior to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitor students in classrooms, on campus, and during field trips to maintain safety.
• Participate in district, staff, and departmental meetings to convey and gather information.
• Participate in Professional Learning Community (PLC) teams to review data and instructional practices.
• Prepare written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
• Report health and safety issues to administrators and appropriate agencies to maintain student safety and comply with regulations.
• Respond to emergency situations and direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, and administrators to provide information and direction.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
• Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate core content area certification.
• Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement.
• Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Criminal background clearance.

Skills & Knowledge

• Ability to apply assessment instruments and curriculum/instructional techniques.
• Proficiency in operating standard office equipment and pertinent software applications.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate activities, lesson plan requirements, child development stages, and behavioral management strategies.
• Ability to perform algebra and/or geometry, read technical information, compose documents, and facilitate group discussions.
• Ability to schedule activities, meetings, or events; gather, collate, and classify data; and use job-related equipment.
• Flexibility to work with diverse individuals and data, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Problem-solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans, including independent interpretation of guidelines.
• Ability to establish constructive relationships, maintain confidentiality, exhibit tact and patience, and work flexible hours.
• Ability to work under limited supervision, direct others within a small work unit, and collaborate as part of a team.

Work Environment

• Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and fine finger dexterity.
• Approximate time distribution: 10% sitting, 40% walking, 50% standing.
• Exposure to temperature extremes and some risk of injury and/or illness.
