About the Role
The Nutrition & Wellness Worker I provides support to food service personnel at an assigned school location, focusing on food service activities, food preparation, and compliance with the National School Lunch Program and mandated health requirements. This position reports to the Kitchen Manager.
Schedule
- 9-month position: 8/4/2026 – 5/26/2027
- 8 hours per day, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Pay
$15.15 per hour (Grade 11)
Responsibilities
- Cleans equipment, storage areas, and food serving lines (e.g., pans, utensils, refrigerators) to maintain safe and sanitary conditions.
- May assist with inspections of food and supply deliveries to verify quantity, quality, and compliance with health requirements.
- Supports management, substitute personnel, student workers, and volunteers in daily kitchen operations.
- Serves food items to meet mandated nutritional requirements.
- Stocks food and supplies to maintain adequate quantities and security.
- Reconciles transactions (e.g., meal counts, monies collected) to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Maintains manual and electronic files (e.g., production reports, temperature logs, time sheets) for record-keeping and legal compliance.
- Uses web-based programs and department software to support daily operations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (desired but not required).
- Job-related experience (desired).
- Food Handler’s Card (required).
- Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (required).
- Criminal background clearance (required).
Skills and Abilities
- Skills: Ability to perform multiple tasks, adhere to safety practices, and operate commercial kitchen equipment.
- Knowledge: Basic math, written procedures, clear communication, multi-step instructions, food handling, sanitation practices, and safety procedures.
- Abilities:
- Use job-related equipment and interpret data following guidelines.
- Work flexibly with diverse groups and in varied circumstances.
- Set priorities, work as part of a team, handle interruptions, and maintain rapport with students, employees, and the community.
- Lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Work in temperature extremes and conditions with exposure to injury or illness.
