About the Role
The Instructional Assistant - Certified supports the instructional program at the school site in the absence of the regular ESP employee. This is an interim position, meaning it may not continue into the following school year and could be subject to transfer within the year based on district programming needs. This role reports to the Site Administrator.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a positive learning environment for all students and a professional relationship with all staff in accordance with district policy.
- Communicates with administration, staff, and/or parents to convey information.
- Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
- Monitors individual and/or groups of students in various settings to ensure compliance with established guidelines and maintain safety.
- Maintains confidentiality of all student and staff records.
- Refers incidents (e.g., personal injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, rule violations) to appropriate site personnel for follow-up.
- Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate behavior, safety concerns).
- Responds to situations (e.g., injured students, fights, vandalism) to resolve immediate safety or security concerns.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- Skills required to perform single tasks using existing skills, including adhering to district policy, safety practices, and operating standard office equipment and software.
- Knowledge of basic math, reading and following instructions, child development, age-appropriate activities, and school safety practices.
- Ability to schedule activities, collate data, work with diverse individuals, maintain confidentiality, and work as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work with others, data, and equipment using defined methods.
- Some problem-solving required to identify issues and select action plans within prescribed guidelines.
Qualifications
- Job-related experience is required.
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) or equivalent.
- Substitute Certificate or Arizona Teaching Certificate.
- First Aid/CPR Certificates.
- Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Pay
Grade 25: $21.51/hr - $23.06/hr (based on experience).
Work Environment
- Requires some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fine-motor dexterity.
- Generally involves 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing.
- Performed under extreme temperatures and conditions with some exposure to risk of injury or illness.
