ROLE AND PURPOSE
Facilitate appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to improve reading and language skills of struggling readers that are identified as being dyslexic.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
- Texas Teacher's Certification
- Bachelor's degree required/Master's Degree preferred
- Certified Academic Language Therapist/Licensed Dyslexia Therapist preferred
- Training in Orton-Gillingham methodologies preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of three years teaching experience in the areas of Language Arts & Reading
- Knowledge of the structure of language
- Knowledge of dyslexia and other learning disorders
- Knowledge of Section 504 process and procedures
- Experience in working with students with dyslexia and providing appropriate interventions
- Ability to analyze and interpret data in a meaningful and effective manner
- Experience with administering and interpreting reading assessments
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Management:
- Effectively implement the identified district dyslexia program with fidelity to meet the needs of individual students with dyslexia
- Absess student language acquisition on a regular basis, provide timely progress reports and attend parent meetings
- Respond to staff and parent inquiries in a timely manner
School/Organizational Improvement:
- Effectively collaborate and communicate with building staff to develop and coordinate student schedules
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management:
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required for student files to ensure fidelity of district program and progress monitoring
- Attend campus Section 504 and/or ARD meetings to assist in accommodations and state testing recommendations for dyslexia students
Professional Growth and Development:
- Remain current on new laws, policies and compliance issues in the area of Dyslexia, 504, and Special Education by attending relevant professional development opportunities
- Attend professional growth trainings to maintain and enhance professional knowledge
Miscellaneous:
- Performs other duties and functions as assigned by campus administration and educational support services administrator
