Location: Sunrise Middle School | Full-time equivalent: 1.0 | Position dates: ASAP – 05/27/2027

About the Role

This is a combined 0.5 FTE Science Teacher and 0.5 FTE Social Studies Teacher position. The role supports the instructional process by developing student success in academics, supervising students, delivering lesson plans within established curriculum guidelines, collaborating with staff and administrators, and communicating with parents or guardians regarding student progress.

Responsibilities

  • Administer subject-specific assessments and tests to evaluate student competencies.
  • Advise parents and guardians on student progress, expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
  • Guide students to improve performance, health, problem-solving, and personal issues.
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, district personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
  • Demonstrate engaging pedagogical approaches tailored to individual student needs.
  • Differentiate classroom instruction to address individualized learning within established lesson plans.
  • Direct student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to support classroom programs.
  • Instruct students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Manage student behavior to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitor students in various educational settings (e.g., classrooms, field trips, dances, athletic events) to maintain safety.
  • Participate in meetings (e.g., district, staff, departmental) and PLC teams to review data and instructional practices.
  • Prepare written materials (e.g., grades, attendance records, anecdotal notes) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Report health and safety issues to administrators and appropriate agencies (e.g., fights, suspected abuse, substance abuse, inappropriate behaviors).
  • Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, and administrators to resolve issues and provide information.
  • Address emergency situations to ensure immediate safety and direct to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

  • Skills in administering assessment instruments, operating standard office equipment, and using pertinent software applications.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instructional techniques, age-appropriate activities, child development stages, behavioral management strategies, and assessment methods.
  • Ability to schedule activities, gather and classify data, work with diverse individuals, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Problem-solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans, including independent interpretation of guidelines.
  • Competencies in establishing constructive relationships, adapting to changing work priorities, maintaining confidentiality, exhibiting tact and patience, working flexible hours, meeting deadlines, and collaborating as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
  • Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate core content area certification.
  • SEI (Structured English Immersion) Endorsement.
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Criminal background clearance.
  • Job-related experience is desired.

Work Environment

  • Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity.
  • Job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing.
  • Exposure to temperature extremes and some risk of injury or illness.
  • FLSA Status: Exempt.
