2026/2027 Van Allen Elementary 4th Grade Teacher

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

• Mets eight Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria on a consistent basis.
• Create and maintain standards of child behavior to create a safe and orderly, teaching and learning environment.
• Create a learning environment based on current and appropriate research.
• Provide whole group, small-group, and individual instruction designed to meet the individual needs of children.
• Create and implement daily and long-range lesson plans to provide whole group, small group, and individual student experiences appropriate to the needs of each child.
• Teach the district-approved curriculum using district-adopted instructional materials.
• Implement developmentally appropriate instructional practices and approaches.
• Evaluate children's intellectual and social growth, keep appropriate records, and assist in preparing progress reports.
• Provide immediate and specific feedback to students regarding their academic progress.
• Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss a child's development and interpret the school program.
• Maintain professional competence through participation in building and district staff development activities.
• Participate in team and building meetings as well as projects and parent-related activities.
• Establish and maintain a professional working relationship with support staff.
• Supervise students in out-of-class activities during the assigned work-day.
• Fulfill conditions in the negotiated agreement.
• Assume other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required

• Education and Licensure: Iowa Teaching Certification with endorsement in content area.
• Physical Requirements: Physical Activity - Stationary Position, Talking, Hearing, Handling, Reaching, Typing, Repetitive Motion, Balance, Lift 0-10 Pounds, Lift 11-25 Pounds, Lift 26-50 Pounds, Lift Over 50 Pounds, Operate Motor Vehicle, Working Conditions - School Hours, Indoors, Outdoors, Evenings, Weekends.

• Amount of Time: Occasionally (1%-32%), Frequently (33%-65%), Constantly (66%-100%): School Hours, Indoors, Outdoors, Evenings, Weekends.

Terms Of Employment

• Work year as established by the Board of Directors.
• Salary established by district adopted salary schedules.
