Como Park Elementary is seeking a Teacher specializing in Specific Learning Disability for the 2026-2027 school year. A Specific Learning Disability refers to a disorder in one or more basic psychological processes involved in understanding or using language, spoken or written, which manifests as difficulty in learning at an adequate rate despite typical developmental opportunities and instruction. This includes conditions such as perceptual disabilities, brain injury, minimal brain dysfunction, dyslexia, and developmental aphasia. The disability is identified by a significant discrepancy between a student's general intellectual ability and academic achievement in areas such as oral expression, listening comprehension, mathematical calculation or reasoning, basic reading skills, reading comprehension, or written expression.

Qualifications

• Valid teaching license for Specific Learning Disabilities issued by the Minnesota Department of Education.
• Must be highly qualified for the core subject area(s) taught.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of the specific special education category for which licensed.
• Understanding of special education teaching philosophy and curriculum for assigned instructional areas.
• Familiarity with teaching and learning strategies to address diverse student learning styles and abilities within the special education population.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to special education, including due process compliance.
• Awareness of multicultural, gender, and disability-fair curriculum concepts.
• Understanding of research and trends in teaching and learning styles, as well as instructional technologies.
• Strong classroom presentation and management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents, district staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to plan and implement lessons aligned with district and school goals.
• Ability to modify classroom assignments to address varying student needs.
• Ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations.
• Ability to evaluate student performance and provide feedback that fosters higher achievement.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Proficiency in utilizing computer and multimedia technology as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in core curriculum and special education areas for which employed, utilizing appropriate instructional resources and technologies.
• Develop and implement innovative methods for instructing special education students.
• Maintain a suitable instructional environment tailored to students' needs, including modifying equipment and adapting materials as necessary.
• Collaborate with special education staff to evaluate student needs and develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal legal requirements.
• Maintain student records in compliance with due process requirements.
• Support Minnesota Graduation Standards and implement district and school goals.
• Evaluate student performance, ensure progress toward IEP goals, and report to parents, principals, and/or Special Education administration as required.
• Maintain regular contact and communication with parents to support student academic development and IEP objectives.
• Perform classroom management duties, enforce student conduct rules, and take appropriate disciplinary action when necessary.
• Provide indirect services to special education students in the licensed category.
• Develop and present in-service training related to disabilities and educational needs of students in the licensed category.
• Pursue ongoing professional growth and development in assigned curriculum areas and attend required district professional development.
• Contribute to the district's Strong Schools, Strong Communities efforts by partnering with staff to enhance student achievement and align resources.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Pay

This position offers a pay range of $58,584 - $111,399, with a maximum hiring step at step twenty (20). The full salary schedule is available in the Teachers contract.

Schedule

This is a 10-month position working 40 hours per week.
