About the Role
The Secondary Teacher will provide guidance and instructional experiences that are academically and developmentally appropriate for students. The teacher is accountable to the New Mexico Teacher Competencies and Domains, delivers State and District curriculum, and ensures equal educational opportunities for all students.
Responsibilities
- Planning and Preparation:
- Demonstrates knowledge of content and resources
- Designs coherent instruction and student assessments
- Sets instructional outcomes and adapts to student needs
- Creating an Environment for Learning:
- Fosters respect and rapport in the classroom
- Organizes physical space and establishes a culture for learning
- Manages classroom procedures and student behavior
- Teaching for Learning:
- Communicates appropriately with students based on culture and developmental level
- Uses questioning and discussion techniques to support classroom discourse
- Engages students in learning and adapts instruction as needed
- Assessment and Professionalism:
- Assesses student progress and reflects on teaching practices
- Communicates with families and participates in professional communities
- Demonstrates professionalism and continuous growth
- Additional Duties:
- Manages time and maintains accurate records of grades and attendance
- Reports student progress to parents and attends faculty meetings/conferences
- Prepares for substitutes and participates in school teams/committees
- Supports district initiatives and uses conflict resolution skills
- Supervises educational assistants, practicum students, and volunteers
- Attends and sponsors extracurricular activities as required
- Reports suspected child abuse/neglect and completes mandated training
- Supervises students on field trips and acts as a positive role model
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Valid New Mexico teaching license with required endorsements
- Ability to perform physical tasks including sitting, standing, lifting (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, and prolonged typing
- Willingness to operate multimedia equipment and current technology
Work Environment
- On-site attendance is mandatory
- Works within varying noise levels, temperatures, and air quality
- Handles frequent interruptions and requires flexibility and patience
- Self-motivated with the ability to work without direct supervision
- After-hours work may be required
Pay
Salary range: $60,583.00 – $84,868.00 (established yearly by the district).
Schedule
7.5 hours per day, 194-day contract length.
