About the role

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. The coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. The role involves working with students interested in sports, providing necessary practice support and advice for a team to be successful against opposing teams in a sports season.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and supervise a total sports program for girls track.
  • Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport.
  • Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.
  • Examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field and upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
  • Advise, coordinate, and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
  • Work evenings and weekends as required for practices, games, and events.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency.
  • Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
  • Complete the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association.
  • Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (girls track).
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
  • Ability to attend on-site for all required activities.

Pay

$4,000.00 for the spring sport season.

Schedule

Contract length: Spring sport season. Work involves evenings and weekends.

Reports to: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
