About the Role
The Aquatics Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the natatorium, adjacent areas (locker rooms, deck space, spectator seating, storage areas, and filtration rooms), and water chemistry and maintenance of the pool. Responsibilities include equipment maintenance and cataloging, pool scheduling, developing community aquatics programs, supervising staff (lifeguards and instructors), budgeting, and conducting program evaluations.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the natatorium is a safe environment for users; administer first aid and respond to emergencies.
- Follow proper procedures to report injuries and problems.
- Maintain all facility certifications and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local aquatic laws and regulations.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of the facility and equipment; make operational decisions.
- Oversee facility operations, water sanitation, and equipment maintenance, including filtration systems, air circulation, and water temperature.
- Coordinate and develop aquatic programs to meet school, district, and community needs.
- Supervise, hire, mentor, train, and coordinate pool supervisors, lifeguards, volunteers, and workers.
- Create and manage the reservation process for the aquatics facility.
- Maintain the master calendar/schedule for facility use.
- Keep facility records and reports, including staff certifications, pool maintenance, transactions, and financial data.
- Provide input for annual budget preparation, including operational and capital expenses.
- Review the financial standing of the facility regularly.
- Manage purchasing of pool chemicals, replacement equipment, and new equipment as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- Experience in the operation of an aquatics center required.
- Pool Operator Certification, American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard Certification required.
- WSI Certification preferred.
- Other education/experience as accepted by the school board and administration.
