Responsibilities
- Aid in the implementation of the daily program under the direction of the SPED teacher.
- Prepare the learning environment, set up interest centers, and prepare materials and supplies for daily activities.
- Work individually or in small groups with students to review classroom instruction, listen to reading groups, or assist with answering questions.
- Supervise outside playground activities and classroom when the SPED teacher is out of the room.
- Perform clerical tasks and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Attend staff meetings and recommended training programs.
- Operate and care for instructional equipment used in the classroom.
- Follow directions given by the head SPED teacher or immediate supervisor.
- Assist with student supervision during field trips, play periods, lunchroom activities, and dismissal.
- Promote high academic achievement and improved linkages among schools, parents, and communities.
Qualifications and Skills
- Enthusiasm and commitment to the position and company's mission and values.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents, the community, and administrative staff.
- Proficient experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information System (SIS), and email communications.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication, active listening, negotiating, and influencing.
- Consistent attendance, punctuality, following instructions, responding to management direction, and soliciting feedback to improve performance.
- Commitment to company values and adherence to the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- High School degree, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
- Successful results of criminal and employment background checks.
- Experience working with children, preferably children with disabilities.
- Being in the process of becoming professionally prepared to supervise young children.
