2026-2027 Special Education Teacher with the Aurora Program
About the role
Crescent City Schools is seeking a talented educator to run a self-contained classroom (1:8) as a lead teacher within the Aurora program. The Aurora program provides an intimate setting to develop the academic, behavioral, emotional, and social skills of K-8 students.
Responsibilities
- Achieve significant improvement in the academic performance of students with exceptionalities
- Provide instruction in small and large groups
- Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to promote students' academic, physical, and social development
- Develop Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as needed to address students' behavioral and social needs
- Communicate with parents/guardians about student progress
- Quickly implement feedback and goal-setting into lesson delivery
- Collaborate with teammates in grade-level and subject-level teams
- Participate in the life of the school, including student activities and events
- Use data to track student achievement and to constantly improve practice
- Participate in daily, weekly, and quarterly meetings about student achievement
- After CPI training, implement de-escalation techniques when working with students, as required
- Embody, advocate, and operationalize the mission, vision, and direction of the school
- Take on other tasks as needed

Qualifications
- Believe in the mission and values of Crescent City Schools
- Believe in the unlimited potential of each child
- Have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (preferred)
- Possess Louisiana Teacher Certification in Special Education (or equivalent certification in another state)
- Knowledge of social-emotional and behavioral interventions (preferred)
- Bilingual (preferred)
Physical Requirements
- Sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- May be required to restrain a student after CPI training
- This is an in-person role
