About the role

KIPP NYC Special Education Teachers collaborate with General Education Teachers to plan targeted, high-leverage interventions for students. They diagnose challenges and design individualized programs and differentiated strategies to meet specific needs, serving students with IEPs, diagnosed disabilities, and those identified as at-risk.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a rigorous college preparatory curriculum combining school standards and New York State standards
  • Engage students through high-quality, exciting instruction
  • Commit to professional and personal growth as part of a teaching team
  • Use data to drive decisions and assess student progress, communicating results to families and colleagues
  • Provide individual or small group instruction for students needing additional assistance
  • Model a “whatever it takes” spirit to ensure student success
  • Uphold the school’s values in all communications with students, families, and staff

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills contributing to a collegial environment and alignment with KIPP NYC’s core values: zest, grit, social intelligence, gratitude, and humor
  • At least two years of teaching experience strongly preferred
  • New York State Special Education teacher certification highly recommended
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Passion for team-oriented, mission-driven school culture
  • Desire to grow as an educator within the KIPP NYC team
  • Demonstrated success in raising achievement for students from communities KIPP NYC serves

This role is based in NYC and may require travel to our schools. Relocation outside a commutable distance or out of New York State may impact employment. KIPP NYC does not offer visa sponsorship.
