About the Role

Secondary Social Studies Teacher responsible for delivering engaging and standards-aligned instruction in history, government, economics, and related social sciences to high school students.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver daily lessons that meet Nevada Academic Content Standards for Social Studies.
• Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments; use data to inform instruction.
• Create and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and respect.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including students with IEPs and English Language Learners.
• Integrate technology and primary/secondary sources to enhance student understanding of historical events and concepts.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic concerns.
• Participate in professional learning communities, department meetings, and school-wide professional development.
• Supervise students during assigned duties (e.g., hall monitoring, lunch supervision, extracurricular activities).
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary units and align curriculum across grade levels.
• Adhere to district policies, procedures, and ethical standards for educators.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Nevada teaching license with appropriate endorsement in Secondary Social Studies (or ability to obtain one).
• Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. History, World History, Government, Economics, and related social science disciplines.
• Experience working with diverse student populations in urban or suburban school settings.
• Strong classroom management skills and ability to engage students in active learning.
• Proficiency in using educational technology and digital resources for instruction.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Commitment to ongoing professional growth and reflective practice.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Education, History, or related field (preferred).
• Three or more years of successful secondary teaching experience in Social Studies.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency (preferred).
• Experience with project-based learning, inquiry-based instruction, and culturally responsive teaching.
• Familiarity with Nevada Academic Content Standards and Common Core State Standards.
