Reports to: Building Administrator • FLSA Status: Exempt • 1.0 FTE • 181 work days per year

About the Role

Create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with pupils; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; and establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

Responsibilities

• Teach math (Mathematics-6th-8th, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Algebra Concepts, and Algebra Essentials) to pupils in a classroom, using the course of study adopted by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and Oklahoma City’s Board of Education and any other appropriate learning activities.
• Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil with identified objectives.
• Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available time for instruction.
• Utilize grading patterns that are fairly administered and based on identified criteria.
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Treat pupils with respect and dignity.
• Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
• Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school program.
• Interact with pupils, staff, and parents in a positive and professional manner.
• Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Establish rapport with pupils and provide a pleasant, safe, and orderly climate conducive to learning.
• Actively participate in full implementation of the OKCPS model for School Improvement.
• Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
• Supervise and monitor students during out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day, which may include but is not limited to cafeteria duty, field trips, playground duty, and hallway monitoring.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• In the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation requiring school or office building closures, an alternative work site may be necessary to ensure continuity of services. Eligibility for alternative work site will be determined by the superintendent of schools, with expectations and guidelines distributed by the employee’s supervisor.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
• Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Secondary Education in one of the following areas or an Alternative Teaching Certification as approved by the Oklahoma State Department of Education:
  • Mathematics-Middle/Junior High School
  • Middle Level Mathematics
  • Elementary Education
  • Intermediate Mathematics
  • Advanced/Secondary Mathematics
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, and follow state and district guidelines.

Physical & Mental Requirements

• Adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
• Adequate visual acuity to read, interpret, and transcribe written material and perform required duties.
• Normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
• Some stooping, bending, stretching, and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
• Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
• May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions to meet business needs and strict deadlines.

Work Environment

Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment.

Pay

Compensation is determined by education and experience, following district step placement (Step 001).
