2026 - 2027 School Year - Social Studies Teacher

About the role

Jo Byrns High School seeks a certified Social Studies teacher to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in History and be prepared to teach both History and Social Studies courses.

Responsibilities

• Teach History and Social Studies courses to students in grades 7-12
• Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with state standards
• Assess student learning through various methods including quizzes, tests, and projects
• Maintain accurate records and report on student progress
• Collaborate with colleagues to plan and implement interdisciplinary units
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills

Requirements

• Current Tennessee teaching certificate in Middle/High School History
• Strong classroom management skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with other educators
• Pass a criminal background check

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
• Experience teaching History and/or Social Studies at the high school level
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
