Founded in 1995, KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of 18 free, public charter schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. About the Role

KIPP NYC College Prep High School (CPHS), located in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, serves over 2,000 students in grades 9–12 across two locations. CPHS offers a rigorous, college-preparatory program with 16 Advanced Placement (AP) courses, 17 Dual Enrollment courses, 13 Honors courses, and a wide range of electives, clubs, and sports. The school provides comprehensive college and career counseling, ensuring students engage in enriching summer programs, develop career plans, and prepare for college. Since its founding, 99% of CPHS students have graduated, 91% have matriculated to college, and 49% have earned a college degree within six years.

Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, CPHS will expand to an additional facility, transitioning to a Lower School and Upper School model. Students will select an industry concentration for grades 11–12, supported by state-of-the-art facilities including 40 classrooms, eight science labs, double gymnasiums, a commercial kitchen, a cafetorium, a rooftop play space, and dedicated arts and wellness rooms.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct services to students and families:
    • Collaborate with Grade Level Partner(s) to assess student needs.
    • Provide counseling support for a caseload of students with mandated services.
    • Support non-assigned students as needed (e.g., follow up on referrals).
    • Provide crisis intervention.
    • Complete documentation for students with IEPs and participate in annual reviews.
    • Use individual and group modalities to address students’ social-emotional needs.
    • Engage families through calls, meetings, report card nights, and school events.
    • Conduct home visits as needed.
    • Collaborate with the grade-level team to support academic progress, including interventions and family communication.
    • Maintain contact and session records as directed.
  • Provide indirect services to students and families:
    • Refer students to outside services when needed and maintain communication with providers.
    • Collaborate with supervisors, staff, and outside providers to meet student needs.
    • Provide recommendations to staff and leadership on approaches for struggling students.
  • Support the school community:
    • Participate actively in department, faculty, and other meetings.
    • Share responsibility for grade-level and school-wide activities, including chaperoning trips.
    • Uphold the highest ethical and professional standards, maintaining confidentiality.
    • Follow NASW Code of Ethics and NYS Mandated Reporting guidelines.

Requirements

  • Documented track record of personal and professional success.
  • Extensive knowledge of adolescent development.
  • Experience in therapeutic modalities for children and families in underserved communities, including trauma assessment and treatment.
  • Experience working in a school environment or with teenagers and young adults.
  • LMSW or MSED in School Counseling from a CACREP-accredited school, plus 3 years of post-license work experience.
  • Spanish-speaking preferred.

This role is based in NYC and may require travel to our schools. Relocation outside a commutable distance may impact employment. KIPP NYC does not offer visa sponsorship.
