About the role

The incumbent will implement, manage, and deliver school health services to maximize health and wellness in the school community. These services will be provided in compliance with State Laws and District Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with the district health staff to provide a variety of health care services to students.
  • Administer medications in accordance with Board of Education policy and Oklahoma State Law.
  • Attend and participate in safe and healthy school committees and individual health care plan/placement meetings when appropriate.
  • Conduct health screenings and make appropriate referrals.
  • Communicate with District personnel, students and parents to exchange information, coordinate activities, and resolve issues or concerns related to student health, medications, accidents, emergencies and daily medical activities.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of records, logs and reports related to student health, medication, accidents and daily medical activities.
  • Attend staff meetings and conferences regarding health services.
  • Maintain health room/clinic in a clean, orderly and safe condition: maintain inventory and order first aid and health room supplies as necessary.
  • Authorize exclusion and readmission of students with infectious and contagious conditions according to OSDH/OSDE and Norman Public Schools Guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current Nursing License from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing
  • Current certification in AHA Healthcare Provider CPR/AED
  • First Aid
  • Education: Graduation from an approved LPN program
  • Training or Experience Required: Minimum of 3 years nursing experience. Previous work and/or volunteer experience with children, teenagers, and students with disabilities is preferred. Certified American Heart Association CPR Instructor preferred.

  • Medical Equipment Usage
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of nursing duties to include procedures such as: catheterizations, tube feedings, suctioning, insulin injections/calculations, blood sugar checks, and inhaler/nebulizer treatments
  • Data Recording/Record Keeping
