About the role

WHIN Music Community Charter School is the first school of its kind, built on the principles of El Sistema. We are a community (nucleo) where staff, families, and students collaborate to make a powerful shift in public education that prioritizes learners’ needs. Responsibilities

• Create and maintain a fun, engaging, and inclusive classroom culture where all students love to learn.
• Differentiate instruction to meet learners’ needs and prepare students to be college and career ready.
• Develop, modify, and implement curriculum and assessments for students with diverse learning needs.
• Drive academic outcomes by analyzing data, differentiating instruction, and supporting each learner’s unique needs.
• Contribute to Child Study Team assessments of student needs.
• Collaborate with colleagues to implement an effective curriculum.
• Inspire students and staff to perform at their highest potential.
• Develop and maintain strong, professional relationships with WHIN families.
• Uphold all school policies within the classroom.
• Attend designated school functions outside of school hours and participate in school/parent meetings.
• Contribute to the planning and execution of school-wide events.
• Receive and implement feedback from school leaders and other staff.
• Participate enthusiastically in all school-wide professional development.

Requirements

• Urban middle school teaching experience.
• NYS or equivalent Education Teaching Certification with coursework in middle school/ELA education.
• Demonstrated success raising achievement levels of all students.
• An unwavering belief that all students can achieve at a high level.
• Proven commitment and success working with students and families.
• Ability to thrive in a startup environment and excel in a fast-paced, dynamic school.
• A sense of humor and kindness toward colleagues.

Preferred Skills

• Bilingual (Spanish).
• Music performance experience.
• Teaching experience and/or certifications in Project-Based Learning and Inquiry-Based Learning.
• Familiarity with Responsive Classroom, Love & Logic Student Management, and Restorative Justice models.
