Job Summary
Position is responsible for providing an enriched library environment for students and aiding them in acquiring necessary research and reference skills.
About the Role
Operates and supervises the media center, assists teachers in selecting instructional materials, informs staff about new acquisitions, maintains cataloging systems, helps students develop research skills, and participates in various school activities.
Responsibilities
- Operates and supervises the media center
- Aids teachers in selecting books and instructional materials
- Makes media center materials available to supplement the instructional program
- Informs teachers and staff about new materials acquired
- Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging media center materials
- Instructs teachers and students on the use of the cataloging system
- Works with teachers in planning assignments for extended use of media center resources
- Helps students develop independent reference work skills
- Helps teachers and students conduct research using the internet and other technological means
- Arranges displays and exhibits to interest students
- Identifies student needs and collaborates with other professionals to help solve learning, health, and attitude problems
- Participates in faculty committees and sponsors student activities
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or a related field, eligible for or possessing a Virginia Department of Education license, ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public, ability to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height, physical agility to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
