About the Role

The Elementary Classroom Teacher supports the educational process by developing student growth in academic and interpersonal skills through district-approved curriculum. This role involves addressing individual student needs, supervising students, developing lesson plans, and collaborating with staff, parents, and administrators to enhance student outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Adapt classroom work to provide students with instructional materials aligned with individualized learning plans and established lesson plans for ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
  • Administer tests and learning assessments, including standardized and individual testing, in accordance with District testing programs.
  • Advise parents and legal guardians on student progress, expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement to reinforce classroom goals at home.
  • Assess student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals through curriculum testing, modified instructional methods, counseling, and small group instruction.
  • Monitor student performance and behavior in the classroom and other assigned areas to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives.
  • Demonstrate methods for classroom and subject-specific assignments to provide an effective program addressing individual student requirements.
  • Develop elementary school objectives and lesson plans that meet state standards and create a foundation for General Education learning goals.
  • Direct student teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student workers to address the needs of individual students.
  • Manage student behavior in various environments (classroom, playground, field trips, transportation) to ensure conformance with school standards and District policies.
  • Oversee additional instructional programs, such as after-school and summer school processes, to manage scheduled student learning programs.
  • Participate in professional development and meetings to stay current with educational developments.
  • Prepare written materials, including grades, attendance records, and anecdotal notes, to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Report incidents such as suspected child abuse or substance abuse to maintain student safety and adhere to Education Code and school policies.
  • Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, and administrators to resolve issues and provide information.
  • Teach students principles of responsible citizenship and core subjects specified by laws, District regulations, and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

  • Skills in applying assessment instruments, operating standard office equipment, utilizing communication tools, managing classrooms, evaluating student learning, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Knowledge of basic math, reading technical information, composing documents, facilitating discussions, and analyzing situations to define issues.
  • Competency in appropriate codes, policies, regulations, age-appropriate activities, lesson plan requirements, curriculum development, child development stages, and behavioral management strategies.
  • Ability to schedule activities, gather and classify data, work with diverse individuals, and utilize job-related equipment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities, supervise students, liaise with staff, manage lesson plans, maintain confidentiality, and work flexible hours.
  • Problem-solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans, including independent interpretation of guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area or enrollment in an Educator Prep Program with an Alternative Teaching Certificate.
  • Job-related experience is required.
  • Appropriate Arizona Teaching Credential.
  • Continuing education/training and maintenance of certificates/licenses.
  • Criminal Background Clearance/Fingerprint Clearance and MMR vaccination.

Work Environment

The role requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job involves 30% sitting, 40% walking, and 30% standing, performed under minimal temperature variations in a generally hazard-free environment.
