2026-2027 JK-5 Daily Substitute

About the role

The JK-5 Daily Substitute position at Francis Parker School is responsible for providing instruction and managing classroom environments for grades JK-5 in the absence of the regular teacher. This is a one-year assignment, full-time, benefit-eligible position.

Responsibilities

• Teach lesson plans and instructions as directed by the absent teacher, or in consultation with the Head of Integrative Programs if a lesson plan is not provided
• Maintain a respectful and orderly classroom, and follow classroom and school procedures as directed by the School
• Organize students for effective instruction
• Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staff in accordance with School policies
• Contribute to student learning, growth, and advancement of the curriculum plan
• Demonstrate the ability to learn and convey a variety of subject matters quickly, while adhering to School processes and protocols
• Communicate in a friendly and positive manner towards parents, students, and administrators
• Ensure the safety of students at all times
• Facilitate problem-solving
• Serve as a role model to students

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, preferably in Education
• Current teaching credential required
• Minimum 3 years teaching experience with a focus on reading, writing, math, and science
• Strong understanding of scope and sequence to keep the class moving forward during teacher absences
• Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals
• Able to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines
• Able to manage small and large groups of students in a classroom environment
• Strong computer skills
• Engaging, energetic, and patient when working with students in a school setting
