About the role
The JK-5 Daily Substitute position at Francis Parker School is responsible for providing instruction and managing classroom environments for grades JK-5 in the absence of the regular teacher. This is a one-year assignment, full-time, benefit-eligible position.
Responsibilities
- Teach lesson plans and instructions as directed by the absent teacher, or in consultation with the Head of Integrative Programs if a lesson plan is not provided
- Maintain a respectful and orderly classroom, and follow classroom and school procedures as directed by the School
- Organize students for effective instruction
- Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staff in accordance with School policies
- Contribute to student learning, growth, and advancement of the curriculum plan
- Demonstrate the ability to learn and convey a variety of subject matters quickly, while adhering to School processes and protocols
- Communicate in a friendly and positive manner towards parents, students, and administrators
- Ensure the safety of students at all times
- Facilitate problem-solving
- Serve as a role model to students
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, preferably in Education
- Current teaching credential required
- Minimum 3 years teaching experience with a focus on reading, writing, math, and science
- Strong understanding of scope and sequence to keep the class moving forward during teacher absences
- Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals
- Able to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines
- Able to manage small and large groups of students in a classroom environment
- Strong computer skills
- Engaging, energetic, and patient when working with students in a school setting
