Position Summary

Manassas Park City Schools is seeking an Instructional Assistant – Adaptive Special Education Curriculum to support the academic and social-emotional growth of students with special needs. This role works closely with a certified special education teacher to implement instructional plans, monitor student progress, and foster an inclusive learning environment.

Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Complies with all school laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Contributes to the evaluation of special education student progress and implements IEP objectives.
  • Supports academic instruction for individuals or small groups.
  • Implements behavioral plans for students with behavior challenges or special conditions.
  • Maintains instructional materials and student records.
  • Makes observations and records student progress.
  • Supervises students during various activities.
  • Assists with clerical and instructional duties as assigned.
  • Supports classroom management and maintains a safe, positive learning environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Operates in a professional school environment involving noise levels ranging from low to moderate.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout the school day.
  • Occasional climbing, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Sitting for extended periods while preparing lessons, grading assignments, or completing administrative tasks.
  • Lifting and moving instructional materials, classroom supplies, or equipment weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally up to 25 pounds or more.
  • Regular use of computers, interactive whiteboards, projectors, printers, and other instructional technologies.
  • Clear verbal communication, active listening, and visual attentiveness essential for delivering instruction and ensuring student safety.
  • Daily interaction with students and regular collaboration with colleagues, administrators, and families.
  • Occasional travel between school sites or participation in supervised field trips.
