2026-2027 Indoor and Outdoor Track Coach

About the Role

The Head Indoor and Outdoor Track Coach position at Petersburg High School is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and coaching instruction at a large public high school.

Responsibilities

• Develop student athletes to their maximum potential, athletically and academically.
• Demonstrate high ideals, good habits, and attitudes, and demand the same of the players.
• Cooperate with the principal and athletic director in planning, scheduling, and conducting assigned activities.
• Supervise assistant coaches by outlining team goals, strategies, objectives, and tasks.
• Submit an annual budget to the athletic director before the conclusion of the school year.
• Conduct an annual inventory of equipment, supplies, and materials, reporting shortages and needs to the athletic director.
• Communicate concerns or problems to the principal on matters not covered by this job description.
• Supervise student athletes to prevent injuries and ensure swift care in case of injuries.
• Stay informed about NCAA rules/regulations regarding visitations, recruitment, and grades of student athletes.
• Perform other duties/responsibilities deemed necessary.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated skills through personal participation or prior coaching experience in track and field.
• Skill in working with students and staff in an athletic environment.
• Ability to avert problem situations and intervene to resolve conflicts.
• Exercises self-control and perseverance when dealing with students.
• Completes paperwork timely and accurately.
• Maintains an acceptable attendance record and is punctual.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required.
• Experience: Demonstrated skills through personal participation or prior coaching experience in track and field.
