About the Role

As a High School Physical Education Teacher, you will create and implement a flexible program and classroom environment favorable to student learning and personal growth. You will develop lesson plans consistent with established guidelines, establish effective rapport with students, staff, and parents, and motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge for an effective educational foundation.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements a program of instruction adhering to CSUSA’s philosophy, goals, and objectives as outlined in adopted courses of study.
• Creates purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that maximize time on task and provide real-world, application-based learning opportunities.
• Reviews student records to understand each student’s abilities and needs; maintains accurate and complete student records.
• Maximizes educational achievement for each student using a variety of student learning modalities and differentiated instruction.
• Conducts frequent diagnostic assessments of student learning, provides appropriate activities to address needs, and generates progress reports.
• Refers students with suspected learning problems to appropriate support personnel.
• Assigns lessons, corrects student work, and reviews oral presentations.
• Coordinates class field trips as required and prepares students for state-required achievement assessments.
• Stays current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory; shares knowledge for continual improvement of the school’s curriculum.
• Assists in the ongoing curriculum revision process, including the revision of written courses of study.
• Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to student maturity and interests.
• Maintains positive rapport with students, demonstrating patience and nurturing to support student growth.
• Ensures the classroom is clean, safe, and includes student-generated work on display as appropriate.
• Implements relevant policies governing student conduct and develops reasonable rules of classroom/playground behavior.
• Participates in curriculum planning with other staff members during designated meetings.
• Incorporates diagnostic information from students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs) into instructional planning.
• Takes necessary precautions to protect supplies, equipment, materials, and facilities needed for the instructional program.
• Strives to establish cooperative relations and communicates with parents/guardians when appropriate.
• Cooperates with administration, staff, and CSUSA; maintains confidentiality regarding student records.
• Participates in parent communication activities and extracurricular activities to support a positive school culture.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
• Possession of valid teaching certification (as appropriate).
• Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of successful teaching experience (may include Student Teaching Internship experience).
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Command of grades/subject-specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation, and feedback techniques.
• Understanding of and commitment to CSUSA’s values.
• Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
• Effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
• Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment includes usual school conditions. The environment may be noisy during high student traffic.
