Job Summary
Mechanicsburg Middle School seeks a Head Coach for the softball team. The position offers a one-time stipend of $2950.00 and flexible hours to be determined in collaboration with the Athletic Director. The role requires meeting the needs and interests of the school community, providing effective leadership, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
Qualifications
A Master's in Physical Education (MPCS) staff is preferred. Previous coaching experience in softball is desirable. Knowledge and background in softball are also required.
Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties
- Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages participation.
- Assesses player skills and assigns team positions.
- Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice times.
- Schedules facilities for practices and competitions.
- Observes players during competition and practice.
- Determines game strategy based on team capabilities.
- Maintains standards of student behavior and supervises athletes.
- Follows established procedures for athlete injuries.
- Communicates with parents/guardians about their student's athletic performance.
- Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct.
- Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport through media and organizations.
- Participates in special activities like parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
- Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, equipment inventory, and other records.
- Instructs athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategies, and physical training.
- Instructs participants on personal hygiene and safety procedures.
- Fosters a positive sports culture among participants and spectators.
- Ensures availability of first aid kit and emergency care cards.
- Inspects facilities, equipment, and environmental conditions for participant safety.
- Communicates team policies and regulations to participants.
- Submits required forms to meet league, board, and school requirements.
- Follows School Activity Funds Manual and local school policies.
- Implements appropriate procedures for handling injury situations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with others using the telephone and personal contact. They must also be able to use and operate various office-related equipment such as a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some physical capabilities include climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
Clearances (Conditions for Employment)
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance and Tuberculosis Screening are required.
