About the role

The Edmonds School District seeks qualified individuals to fill coaching positions. These roles involve developing fundamental skills and understanding of sports in participants, fostering cooperation, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior. Coaches are responsible for maintaining a safe environment, ensuring student-athlete eligibility, monitoring behavior, overseeing equipment management, and staying updated with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement best strategies and methods for the sport being coached
  • Maintain a safe environment for participants
  • Foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity in the program
  • Ensure student-athlete eligibility and monitor behavior
  • Oversee the issuance and inventory of equipment
  • Manage and maintain accurate financial and administrative records
  • Aid with program-related logistics
  • Stay current with industry standards, rules, and coaching techniques

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Extensive sport-specific knowledge of the sport being coached
  • Head Coaching experience or multiple years of assistant coaching experience
  • Experience communicating with families, student-athletes, and the media
  • Experience with program leadership and organizational skills - including fundraising, managing ASB budgets, and maintaining positive relationships with booster groups and other stakeholders
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, or bend, and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions and wear required personal protective equipment

Benefits

This position is not anticipated to qualify for benefits due to its seasonal/guest role nature. Health care services are provided by the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA), and benefits are provided through SEBB (School Employees Benefits Board). Eligibility for SEBB state health insurance coverage is determined by working 630 hours during the school year. Eligibility for a state retirement plan through the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) is determined upon hire and is based on various factors.
