2026-2027 Fall/Spring Occupational Safety and Environmental Compliance and Industrial Hygienist Intern

About the role
This internship is within the Chief Safety and Security Officer department’s Occupational Safety and Environmental Compliance unit. The primary work location is CTA Headquarters (567 W. Lake Street, Chicago, Illinois 60661).
Responsibilities
- Complete training sessions offered by CTA
- Organize and analyze the safety inspection dataset
- Participate in field inspections
- Assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements
Requirements
- Full-time enrollment (as defined by your academic institution) in a degree program at an accredited college or university in the Chicagoland area
- Preferred majors: Occupational Safety, Environmental Management Studies, Industrial Hygiene
- Preferred education level: College graduate student
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a normal office environment
- Must comply with office policy to work on-site twice per week
- Light physical activity, including walking outdoors and climbing stairs
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
- Walking up to 6 miles per week
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
Skills
- Strong Microsoft Office and computer skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good analytical and critical thinking skills
- Proficient organizational skills with attention to detail
- Good project management skills
- Knowledge of OSHA, IEPA, and EPA regulations
- Proficiency with Power BI or Python
- Knowledgeable in data analysis
Schedule
Part-time (15 hours per week) during the school year.
Pay
Final salary will be determined in part by the qualifications of the selected candidate.
