Location: Petersburg High School • Supervisor: Athletic Director and Principal
About the Role
This position is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and coaching instruction at a large public high school.
Responsibilities
- Develop student athletes to their maximum potential, athletically and academically.
- Demonstrate high ideals, good habits, and attitudes and demand the same of players.
- Cooperate with the principal and athletic director in planning, scheduling, and the general conduct of activities.
- Supervise assistant coaches by outlining team goals, strategies, objectives, and tasks.
- Submit an annual budget to the athletic director prior to the conclusion of the school year.
- Inventory all equipment, supplies, and materials annually; submit shortages and needs to the athletic director prior to the conclusion of the school year.
- Communicate concerns or problems to the principal on any matters not specifically covered by this job description.
- Supervise student athletes to ensure preventative measures are taken to prevent injuries and provide swift, immediate care in case of injuries.
- Stay abreast of all NCAA rules and regulations relative to visitations, recruitment, and grades of student athletes.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary.
Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated skills through personal participation or prior coaching experience in cross country.
- Experience working with students and staff in an athletic environment.
- Ability to avert problem situations and intervene to resolve conflicts.
- Exercises self-control and perseverance when dealing with students.
- Completes paperwork timely and accurately.
- Maintains an acceptable attendance record and is punctual.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required.
- Experience: Demonstrated skills through personal participation or prior coaching experience in the sport assigned.
