KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of 18 free, public charter schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. KIPP NYC College Prep High School (CPHS) serves students graduating from KIPP middle schools and other New York City students seeking a rigorous, college-preparatory program. Located in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, CPHS educates over 2,000 students in grades 9-12 across two locations. The school offers Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and Honors courses, along with electives, clubs, and varsity sports. CPHS provides comprehensive college and career counseling to prepare students for college entrance exams, summer programming, and post-graduation opportunities.

About the role

The College and Career Readiness Teacher primarily works with 11th graders, teaching the College and Career Readiness (CCR) course. This role focuses on preparing students for the SAT, college admissions, career exploration, and personal statement writing. The teacher will assist in planning and executing mock and official SAT exams, motivate students to meet individualized growth goals, and report to the Manager of College and Career Readiness.

Responsibilities

• Plan and instruct lessons on College Knowledge, Career Success, socio-emotional learning, and SAT instruction in Math and Evidence-Based Reading & Writing (EBRW).
• Differentiate and align daily instruction based on data.
• Assist with after-school and summer SAT Prep classes.
• Support the Student College and Career Ambassador Program.
• Infuse joy and a passion for excellence into the junior CCR course.
• Motivate and invest students and families in the CCR course and college entrance exams through relationship building and communication.
• Maintain grades and attendance in PowerSchool.
• Assist with mock and official exams on five Saturdays throughout the year.
• Plan and chaperone a junior college trip.
• Teach an Advisory class of no more than 15 students.
• Support college counselors by monitoring classrooms and providing assistance.
• Fully engage in weekly PLC meetings, including data analysis and action planning.
• Commit to professional and personal growth through collaboration with the Manager of College and Career Readiness and relevant professional development.
• Assess student progress and communicate results to families and colleagues.
• Assist the Manager of College and Career Readiness with projects as needed.
• Model the school's values in all communications with students, families, staff, and outside organizations.

Requirements

• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to changes and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year institution.
• Minimum of three years of relevant work experience, preferably with large groups of students.
