Full-time, exempt position reporting to the School Principal.

About the role

The Band Director/Music Teacher instructs students, creates lesson plans, assigns and grades homework, manages students in the classroom, communicates with families, and helps students grow in their music education.

Responsibilities

  • Teach music courses for grades 9–12, including band, introduction to music, music theory, and guitar.
  • Host and participate in partner school activities and diocesan band or music events.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters, including social media and online platforms.
  • Follow all Bethlehem Catholic High School and Allentown Diocese policies as outlined in the teacher’s handbook.
  • Engage in professional growth, adhere to professional standards, and demonstrate professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership.
  • Collaborate with staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Attend required in-service training meetings, workshops, and faculty meetings.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Principal, including:
    • Directing Christmas and spring concerts.
    • Leading parades and other community events.
    • Conducting the marching band at all football games (including playoffs).
    • Conducting at a determined number of winter sports season basketball games and wrestling matches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in music, education, or a related field (required).
  • PA teaching certification (preferred).
  • Previous experience working with children.
  • Understanding of child development and skills to relate to students.
  • Ability to handle classroom situations with fairness and patience.
  • Strong writing skills and effective communication with students and teachers.
  • High level of confidentiality, credibility, integrity, and self-confidence.
  • Clear records of the following (no less than 1 year old):
    • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH).
    • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History.
    • Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check (per Act 153 of 2014).
  • Completion of online Protecting God’s Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.
  • Due to the mission of the Catholic Church, all employees must exhibit respect for Church teachings and discipline regarding faith and morals, including maintaining a lifestyle in conformity with Catholic teachings.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and stoop.
  • Must be able to talk and hear, both in person and by telephone.
  • Use of hands to perform classroom duties and operate office equipment.
  • Reaching and lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas.
  • Hearing to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, verifying accuracy, and observing surroundings.

Schedule

Full-time, contracted position with core hours of 7:35 am – 2:45 pm. May require assistance with special duties and attendance at school-related events outside normal school hours.
