(2026-2027) 7th & 8th Grade ELA/Social Studies Teacher, St. Jane Frances de Chantal School

About the role

The teacher will instruct 7th & 8th grade students in ELA and Social Studies, creating lesson plans, assigning and grading homework, managing students, communicating with families, and fostering students' faith.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate student performances in class and on tests and provide feedback.
• Maintain fair, accurate, and timely grading policies, procedures, and attendance.
• Maintain and engage in professional growth, adhere to professional standards, and demonstrate professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership.
• Collaborate with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
• Identify materials needed to implement class activities/projects.
• Communicate with students and parents on a regular basis about schedules, assignments, events, and individual student needs.
• Attend parent-teacher conferences throughout the school year.
• Regularly check email and update web pages as required through the technology system provided by the school.
• Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge to provide an effective educational foundation in accordance with their abilities.
• Organize daily class time to accomplish instruction within the allotted time; develop weekly lessons with appropriate instructional materials; provide instructions for substitutes in case of absence.
• Evaluate student progress; keep appropriate records; prepare, administer, score, and record evaluations; prepare progress reports and report cards.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters including social media and online platforms.
• Follow all St. Jane Frances de Chantal School and Allentown Diocese policies as per the teacher's handbook.
• Supervise students in hallways, before, after, and between classes, in the cafeteria, and at special events, ensuring safety and security.
• Rotate with staff on student arrival and dismissal.
• Maintain an orderly classroom stocked with appropriate supplies.
• Supervise and manage students' behavior in the classroom, hallways, lunchroom, etc., to foster a positive and healthy learning environment for all.
• Attend all required in-service training meetings and workshops.
• Participate in faculty meetings.
• Be involved in the school community by attending school events, activities, fundraisers, etc.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education or equivalent.
• Pennsylvania Certification.
• Effective communication with parents, students, and colleagues.
• Understanding of child development and supervision skills.
• Ability to handle classroom situations with fairness and patience.
• Able to maintain a high level of energy and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Experience in Catholic education preferred.
• Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum, educational research, and technological tools.
• Ability to establish and maintain appropriate student supervision.
• Ability to respond calmly to overwhelming and difficult situations.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Additional Condition Of Employment

• Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014 (No less than 1 year old).
• Attendance at the online Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.
