1st Shift Manual Machinist

Shift: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm, Monday – Friday

Responsibilities

• Read and process sheets, blueprints, and sketches to determine machining operations, dimensional specifications, setup, and operating requirements.
• Identify, select, and install proper tooling for the operations being performed.
• Calculate appropriate feeds and speeds for a variety of steel grades, copper, brass, aluminum, and bronze.
• Intuitively understand the capabilities of tooling and machinery.
• Understand applicable quality systems and perform necessary quality inspections.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce setup times and improve productivity.
• Set up all necessary measuring equipment and routinely check the calibration of the equipment while measuring.
• Work with various machinery and metalworking materials in a machine‑shop environment, including cutting fluids, lubricants, and metal shavings.

Minimum Required Qualifications

• Prior experience with precision inspection equipment (e.g., micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges).
• One‑year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proven ability to hold tight machining tolerances of less than 0.001 in.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, talk, and hear.
• Occasionally required to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and to taste or smell.
• Frequent lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities: close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Material hazards: regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and vibration.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Work Environment & Safety

• Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, steel‑toe boots, hearing protection, and gloves.
• Must adhere to all safety procedures and company safety policies.
• Employees are expected to follow any additional job‑related instructions from the Supervisor and perform any other duties as requested.
