About the Role
The Senior Machine Operator operates machinery to meet customer specifications in compliance with company policy related to GMP's and Safety.
Responsibilities
- Maintain area, equipment, and personal sanitation.
- Ensure proper set up of film, labels, cheese, and operation of machinery.
- Frequently inspect conveyor belt to ensure smooth flow of cheese.
- Grease and clean machine based on preventative maintenance schedule.
- Ensure cheese quality and monitor line for speed and adequate feed of cheese products.
- Ensure size and specifications of cheese are within tolerances.
- Take metric measurements and temperature readings.
- Make weight adjustments.
- Review order specifications and perform quality checks to ensure product is packaged according to customer specifications.
- Productive use of downtime.
- Communicate daily production issues, changes, and safety issues to line personnel.
- Operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist maintenance and supervision with repairs, updates, testing, and special project information gathering.
- Train and motivate new operators.
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices, policies, and procedures outlined in the Safe Quality Food Program.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.
Requirements
- 3 years of machine operator experience or more.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and related equipment.
- Ability to make minor decisions based on standard practices.
- Ability to operate multiple pieces of packaging equipment.
- Ability to read, prepare, and comprehend production reports and worksheets.
- Ability to communicate with line personnel regarding quality and safety issues.
- Ability to set up and adjust packaging equipment using automatic computer controls.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, troubleshoot, and problem solve.
- Ability to operate all production packaging equipment.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Ability to work different shifts as requested.
- Travel to other plants for special projects and training.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Experience in Microsoft Office and SAP.
- Ability to promote teamwork.
- Basic computer skills.
Working Conditions
- Ability to constantly stand, walk, bend, flex, and extend the neck.
- Frequent gripping, reaching, lifting, and pulling with left and right hands.
- Frequent handling of material from floor-to-waist and waist-to-shoulder, including pushing, pulling, and carrying.
- May require wearing hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, hard hats, and/or safety glasses.
- Product weight: up to 100 lbs.
- Repetitive work in a fast-paced production environment with an average temperature of 50-60 degrees F.
