Position Summary
The CNC Machinist / Operator will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC 3, 4, and 5 Axis milling centers to produce precision components used in Jacob Grey's firearm platforms. The ideal candidate is mechanically minded, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a high-precision production environment where quality and consistency are paramount.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate multi-axis CNC machines (vertical, horizontal, and/or 5-axis mills) according to production schedules and engineering drawings.
- Load programs, verify setup sheets, and inspect first-article parts to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Measure and verify component dimensions using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other precision instruments.
- Monitor machine operation and tool wear; make offset adjustments as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance and cleaning on machines and workstations.
- Work with engineering and quality teams to identify and correct non-conformances and improve manufacturing processes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T symbols, and work instructions.
- Maintain accurate records of production and inspection results per AS9100 documentation requirements.
- Contribute to a culture of safety, cleanliness, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; trade school or technical certificate preferred.
- 5+ years of experience operating CNC mills or lathes (Okuma, Haas, or Makino experience a plus).
- Strong understanding of G-code, machine offsets, tooling, and workholding principles.
- Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and tolerances (GD&T).
- Competence with precision measuring tools and inspection procedures.
- Mechanical aptitude with a strong eye for detail and quality craftsmanship.
- Experience in the firearm, aerospace, or precision manufacturing industries preferred.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Okuma, Makino and Mazak or similar control systems.
- Familiarity with Mastercam, Fusion 360, or other CAM software.
- Basic understanding of lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement principles.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or in a small-team environment.
