Duties
- Prepares and executes a daily schedule through communication with the Superintendent and personal observations
- Makes necessary observations, documents staff performance, monitors quality and quantity of work, and provides input to staff
- Ensures a safe and clean work environment by enforcing OSHA and EPA regulations and federal and state laws
- Supervises and participates in the setup and monitoring of irrigation systems, pump stations, and all necessary inventories
- Scouts the golf course regularly for insect, weed, and disease problems, diagnoses issues, and takes corrective action after discussing with the Superintendent
- Develops, implements, and trains golf course employees on departmental policies and training manuals
- Coordinates, schedules, and inspects projects performed by outside vendors and communicates any changes or delays to the Superintendent
- Manages irrigation systems for cool season turf varieties and develops and maintains complete record documentation for the golf course operation
- Provides input on projects, staff development, employee evaluations, discipline, and termination issues, and assists with wage increases
- Aids in applicant interviews and Human Resource issues within the department
- Attends seminars and workshops for continued professional growth and development
- Receives and makes suggestions for improvements to procedures, equipment, etc.
- Uses office-related computer software such as Microsoft Excel and Word
- Serves as a departmental liaison between other departments and committees, including Safety
- Completes and submits monthly Highlights Reports to the Superintendent and Director
Qualifications
- Minimum of an Associate Degree or Certificate in Turfgrass Science or related field from an accredited college, with a Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Minimum of two years experience at an assistant level and a total of five years experience in golf course maintenance
- Total familiarity with calibration procedures for all applicable turf equipment such as sprayers and spreaders
- Ability to write reports and attend meetings at intervals
- Confidence and conversance with all areas of course maintenance
- Ability to competently operate all pieces of turf maintenance equipment and train employees on their proper use
- Possession of a Georgia Pesticide Applicators License in Category 24
